See an Online Doctor 24/7 with Amwell

Screen Shot 2015-11-30 at 4.36.05 PMGetting in to see a Doctor right away can be extremely difficult these days. It is not uncommon to find out that the next available appointment with your physician is 3 weeks or more from now! Who wants to wait that long? who can? Sometimes your problem isn’t an emergency yet it cannot wait to be taken care of. I’ve experienced the frustration of trying to secure an appointment many times and am happy that services like Amwell are popping up for the underserved group of people that get sick every year yet cannot find help when they need it. Amwell has a growing list of Doctors that are available 24/7 on their website which can be accessed by computer, phone, or ipad to answer your questions, prescribe medications, or offer referrals.

Setting up your online profile is easy. It takes about 5 minutes to answer questions about your medical background/history (which you’ll never have to fill out again) and to write any additional notes you want the Doctor to read about your current condition.

On the next page you select your local pharmacy so that your Doctor can send you a prescription if needed. The final page accepts payments via insurance or credit card. The best part is that all visits only cost $49 ! The convenience of getting medical attention without an appointment has never been so affordable.

So back to my experience with the site. I chose a physician and was told that there was a brief wait with two other patients in front of me. After 2 minutes, the woman below came on the screen and checked in on me by letting me know that I would be seen shortly. I thought that this was a nice touch because it made me feel attended to despite waiting. Another minute passed, and I was offered to see another physician if I didn’t want to wait so I went ahead and accepted the offer to see Dr. Thompson instead. It is a great option to offer patients that are not willing to wait and don’t mind seeing someone else.

I had previously checked out Dr. Thompson’s profile and was confident that she had the expertise needed to address my concerns today. I really love how Amwell has a profile for each Doctor that lists their education, years of experience, and a blurb that helps you get to know them better.

Very soon after accepting the visit, my laptop’s camera turned on and I was in a video session with Dr. Thompson. Please excuse the blurry picture below :) My internet connection wasn’t steady when I took this screen shot but I wanted to give you an idea of what the screen looks like during an appointment.

Dr. Thompson immediately asked me how she could help and I told her the symptoms I have been experiencing. Her follow-up questions were insightful and I felt like she was truly listening throughout our session. My virtual visit was helpful in that I now have clear guidance on what to do next! I never felt rushed, in fact, the visit felt personal in the comfort of my home. It was so refreshing to get help quickly without sacrificing quality care.

After my appointment, the Doctor’s recommendations were sent to me along with a summary of our discussion. I really like how I can print out the pdf and take it to future medical appointments for reference.

I highly recommend using Amwell for anyone that needs medical expertise in a hurry or would like to skip the hassle of driving to the Doctor’s office, waiting forever, and being rushed during your visit. For an idea of typical issues Amwell can handle check out the list below:

I’m a Californian!

moving-to-californiaWe took an incredible 12 day road trip from Florida to California (more about that soon I promise) and landed about 3 weeks ago in my dream state. I feel like I’m finally home because I have felt a connection to this place ever since I was a kid. I came up with excuses to visit whenever I could and fell in love more and more each time. Now I get to be a part of it all and breathe in the humidity free air. Glorious I tell you. Simply glorious.

First of all, it’s been thrilling to look around my new city and see gorgeous mountains in the background. Our idea of hills in Florida were highways or bridges! Now I get to drive, hike, or bike these huge inclines without having to go very far. Even though I saw amazing vistas traveling across the country (Ex. The Grand Canyon and Sandia Peak) driving to San Francisco from Silicon Valley was breathtakingly beautiful and I couldn’t stop uttering words of amazement.

I feel so lucky.

TreesCaliOur two pups did surprisingly well on the road trip by the way but are probably glad to have a permanent home now. Luckily this area is super dog friendly so I think that they are happy to be in Cali too 😀 Aspen&CharlotteI took this picture today when they zonked out after running around at one of the many dog parks nearby 😛

There is so much more to tell you and catch up on but I’m going to head off to bed now. Tell me, is there a place you’ve always wanted to move to?
