First of all, THANK YOU to everyone that commented on my 5k goal post. I can’t tell you how amazing it felt to know that there are so many of you out there with the same goal. Every time I saw a new comment that said “me too” I got a little emotional. I was hesitant to post my goal but you all made me feel wonderful about it and erased any shame I felt. It’s times like these that I am so grateful to have a blog and be able to connect with this community. I LOVE YOU ALL! … Continue reading →

Once upon a naive time, I started racing with no clue as to what would be considered a decent 5k time. So I started slow. Real slow with a 40:16. I dropped 4 minutes the following month ending up with a 36:09, dropped to 33:22 with a race the next month, until finally hitting 31:13 after a string of longer races including 2 half marathons, a 15k, and a 24 hour event with 3 races back to back. And that’s where the story ends. I stopped signing up for the torture thrill of short races and focused all my energy … Continue reading →

After what seemed like a billion rainy days I finally headed out on my bike Sunday. It was beautiful, cool and breezy, and just what I needed after being cooped up all week. By the Numbers: 20 mile ride (Longest Yet! Squee!) 800 Calories burned Saw: 30 cows 7 horses 5 ducks 4 dogs And 4 bunnies!!!! I’m mostly excited about seeing these! They are adorable and it kind of made me feel like Alice out there; I was all curious and read. Where were they scurrying off to? Late to a party? hehe. I’m a dork. I just … Continue reading →

Thank you so much to everyone that sent me congrats after finishing my first triathlon. I love this community immensely and you all keep me motivated and inspired to continue pushing myself to be better and stronger. Big sloppy virtual kisses for all of you! On Monday, I had the opportunity to attend an advanced media screening of Iron Man 3. Ever since I saw Robert Downey Jr. in the first Iron Man, I’ve been smitten with the series of action films because he brings such humor and intelligence to the role. Plus, he’s not hard on the eyes.
Triumph. Tears. Joy. A little puking. A lot of shock. Over too soon. All of these describe my first triathlon experience. It was a crash course in multi-sport and this Latina not only survived but won this: Aaaaaaah!! What!?! Let’s back track first though shall we? We drove to St.Petersburg after work Friday and arrived a little past midnight the night before the race. Right away I knew I wouldn’t be getting much sleep as I still had to unpack and prepare everything for the early morning wake up call at 4 a.m. ::shudders:: It was brutal folks.
It’s been raining heavily for the past three days so I’m not really thrilled with mother nature right now. In fact if she were a real person, I’d be giving her the sideways stink eye. My first triathlon is in only FIVE DAYS! AH! and I’m trying my best to get some more training in but it keeps effin pouring. Here is why I am freaking out a smidgen. Some things have changed since I first started my triathlon mission a few months ago. Sadly, I am now training solo. My friend never found a bike, started having knee problems, … Continue reading →

Ay dios mio! that was a long, hectic, crazy, fun conference week. I just came back from Hispanicize in Miami (a 5 day event with music, film, social media, journalism, and marketing panels along with concerts and parties) and immediately had to go back to work the next day. Driving 5 1/2 hours each way was not easy but I survived I am so incredibly happy with the results of my trip. Lot’s of great contacts were made and this blog is going to morph a little in the next few months. I feel so renewed, inspired, and energized.
Who did they think they were messing with?!? Marathoners, Boston Marathoners no less, are some of the strongest people in the world. Not only are they physically fit and healthy, but their mental fortitude carried them through years of training, setbacks, and doubts to qualify for this prestigious race. You are no match for them. Whoever did this, you did NOT WIN.This tragedy will not cause runners to cower today or in the future. We are united. We are a Force. And your evil, insecurity, disregard for human life, will never triumph over the collective power of our positive running … Continue reading →

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished there was more time in a day. Take yesterday for example, I worked a 12 hour shift at work and arrived home around 8:30. After showering, making sure Charlie ate (he’s been finicky lately), cleaning up, doing laundry, and eating I finally snuggled into my cozy abandoned sheets at 2 a.m; Zombie like and frazzled beyond belief. Today I’m working again and will be driving 5 hours to Miami for Hispanicize so frankly I will probably need more than a few cafecitos to keep me from falling over. But it’s ok, … Continue reading →

I finally had the chance to head out to the beautiful Baldwin Trail this weekend! In the concrete jungle of Jacksonville, where no cyclist feels safe, this is as good as it gets… but it is seriously good. Absolutely heavenly in fact. For 15 miles straight you’re hugged by trees on either side, get glimpses of horses and cows, and the most beautiful farm houses. It is like stepping into the country side and immersing yourself in a serenity you never knew you missed. All that city noise and distraction from mobile devices, computers, phones, my boss, my family and … Continue reading →
