Flattering Swimwear On a Budget

This post is underwritten by Old Navy. Whether you’re looking for a tankini, bikini, or a one piece, Old Navy has you confidently covered at a great price.

I can’t believe it’s time for swimsuit season! I know it can be frustrating to find a perfect swimsuit that makes you feel confident yet doesn’t cost a fortune. Luckily I discovered that Old Navy is a one stop shop for flattering swim wear this season. Ryan recently received an unexpected gift card there for his birthday from his sister so I decided to tag along to help him shop…and ok look around and see if there was anything I would like ;)

The first thing that caught my eye was the massive wall of colorful sandals. I immediately wanted to throw them all in a cart arm swipe style, purchase, rush home and build a sandal haven for them in my closet. Something about sandals makes me giddy. Is it the comfort? What they represent (Lounging on a beach) ? Or the simple fact that they come in dreamsicle colors?

As I wandered further along, I came across their endless swimsuit styles and fell in love about 100 times.

The colors were so vibrant and fun!

And they had swimsuits for every body type :)

As a Latina, I definitely have curves that I’m working on taming but at the same time I feel that it’s important to feel confident enough to step outside during the Summer anyway. Even if you’re still on your fitness journey, buying a swimsuit doesn’t have to be an unpleasant experience.

Forget what’s “In” and purchase what flatters YOU.

As a pear shape I know I feel my best when I wear silhouettes that elongate my legs and take the focus off my thighs. When I came across this one piece I just knew I had to try it on:

I really loved the detail of the gold hammered metal on the straps and thought it looked like such an elegant swim suit.

Off I went to the fitting rooms to try on some options.

I took some two pieces in with me as well, in case they would work well for my figure.

Although the color was beautiful and the fit not terrible, I didn’t feel my best in the two pieces. When purchasing clothing you should ask yourself “Do I absolutely love it?” “Can I picture myself wearing this right now? (not waiting till I lose 5 pounds, or when I can cover up, etc.) My answer was no so I put them back and tried on the swim suit I had a gut feeling about all along.

Success!! I felt like this suit had nice detailing that focused attention to other parts of my body. With my swimsuit victory lightening my mood, I headed over to catch up with Ryan and see If I could help him pick something out.

I found him checking out the board shorts and he already had a pile of clothes in his arms that he was buying.

When he saw my camera in tow he begged and begged to model for me. I finally relented because frankly I’m a great g/f and he looked so eager.

I loved these on him! They look kind of vintage and he’s a big fan of simple patterns. This isn’t a loud print and yet it’s really interesting. He agreed so he headed off to find a changing room to try it on. At this point, the store was getting pretty crowded so there was a line for the fitting rooms. Luckily Old Navy has really cool mini fitting rooms called “Quick Change” that were available so that’s where we went.

He loved them!!! So we went towards the checkout line completely satisfied with our picks. On the way I spotted a replica of the sunglasses I had recently bought in Savannah Georgia and had sadly lost in just one day. OMG I was ecstatic! It’s rare for me to find shades that suit my face so losing that pair was very painful for my soul (I know dramatic. Don’t care.)

It had been a while since I’d been inside of Old Navy so this entire shopping trip was a pleasant surprise. I also had a blonde moment while there. Let me explain. While I was shopping, I kept seeing men walking around folding shirts and basically handling the clothes while dressed in full Navy uniforms. I thought NEATO! and was all “kudos Old Navy! What a great employee uniform!!”

I really believed they worked there and couldn’t wait to come home and tell you all about it. I mean what a cool customer experience that would provide!

So of course I walked up to them and asked how long they’d been asked to wear these uniforms by Old Navy. I was sure I couldn’t recall this novelty before. That’s when they broke it to me. They really were in the U.S. Navy and were just shopping after landing in our port.

I could have been mortified but I just thought it was hysterical. They were pretty good sports about it too :D Old Navy if you’re listening, you should totally have Navy uniforms for your staff in the future. It is completely apropos and so fun!! I felt like it created such an immersive shopping atmosphere lol.

Long story short (haha too late for that) Old Navy has a huge variety of great swimwear this season for both men and women. Even the Navy men shop there lol

P.S. Everything in this Graphic is from Old Navy :D

It’s so easy to create an outfit at their store without spending loads of money. When I purchased my swim suit it was on sale (which they do regularly) and such a great deal! I walked out feeling like I cheated the store by getting so much value for my money. They have swim wear for all body types including apple and pear by offering tankinis and one pieces with flattering cutouts. I highly recommend stopping by and stocking up for Summer this year.

What type of swim suit do you feel most confident in? I love one pieces but also occasionally gravitate towards the boy shorts

Would you like to see employees in Navy uniforms? aaah I still can’t get over how cool it would have been.

Thank you again to Old Navy for sponsoring my post. I was compensated for this post as a member of Clever Girls Collective, but the content is definitely all my own. I don’t sugarcoat for anyone!
