Growing Pains, Crab Cakes, and Comedy

You’ve probably noticed that my header is different. I’ve been wanting to take down my brilliantly misguided copy & paste design for some time now. Well today was the day I coerced Ryan into working for me!! I promised I’d pay him for all this professional graphic design skillage (yes I made that word up) with his favorite candy Lifesaver gummies and he accepted. Note to self: Must buy a case when I plead my case to vacation abroad.

We had a few debates while working on this. I’ll admit it can be really annoying to have your girlfriend remind you over and over again that she wants to make something pop, add a splash of color, make the font type less boring, and for the love of god MAKE IT MORE GIRLY. I was assaulting his finely tuned designer sensibilities and kind of led him down a path of no return. So we are leaving this version up for now until he can work on it without me bossing him around :D Something about how he’ll actually get some decent work done once there is no one micro managing his every move.

Yesterday we had an impromptu date night. We were originally just going to grab something simple to eat and maybe catch a movie but Ryan decided to surprise me with a visit to Copeland’s of New Orleans. I had no idea we were going to eat there and was so frickin’ excited when we pulled into their parking lot. I have wanted to eat here since I first saw their glowing sign. I didn’t even think to take a picture because we were really hungry at this point and I was eager to sit down and order.

The first thing I noticed was how relaxed the atmosphere felt. Many girls were dressed nicely but there was this electric vibe in the air where you just knew everyone was having fun. The booths were very comfy and the menu looked fantastic. I chose the Shrimp and Crab Cake Pasta but it was difficult to come to that decision because everything sounded so good. Ryan went straight for the steak part of the menu and almost went for the prime rib until the waiter came around and suggested Al’s Favorite Filet. It was a little pricey but we quickly decided to just go for it and really enjoy our dinner. We’ve been really good at saving money lately so going out for a nice dinner was a special treat we felt we could indulge in.

The crab cakes in this dish were phenomenal! Crisp on the outside and I loved the crunch from the green onions on the inside. The pasta and shrimp were equally addictive. I finished the entire plate of lemon buttery goodness. Probably one of the first times of late that I’ve eaten every portion of my entree.

Ryan didn’t fare bad either. His steak was out of this world flavorful! So much so that he didn’t even add his beloved A1 sauce to it. One of the staff members that brought it out was amazing. He convinced Ryan to try it without the sauce first because he had such conviction and passion. Let me tell you this is no easy feat. The boy will not eat steak without that sauce on standby. But this man did it and I was blown away by his joy for food. I didn’t get his name but Copeland’s is very lucky to have him. Not only was he right about the steak but he added a genuinely rare quality to our dining experience. I won’t soon forget how excited he got us about a single dish with just his charisma.

We ended the meal with their white chocolate bread pudding even though we were pretty stuffed by then. You see we never ever make it all the way to dessert because we always feel too full. I thought we could give it a whirl if not to just sample what they had to offer. It was pretty good with the white chocolate shavings and the warm bread pudding but it definitely could have used some cold ice cream. That would’ve taken it to a whole other level.

After dinner, we wrapped up the night with a visit to the local Comedy Zone. Laughing till it hurt was the perfect end to our night!  It felt great to laugh at inappropriate jokes, drink some wine, and enjoy some quality time together. Things learned or confirmed:

1. Some girls have fake sounding laughs that make me cringe. I would love to ask “Do you really sound like that normally?”

2. Our table was outnumbered politically lmao We were the only 4 with a certain party affiliation. Can you guess which one?

3. Dirty jokes are the best kind.

And when the show finished, we were happy to go home and see our puppy Charlie after being away for 4 hours. Ah I can’t get over how nice it is to see his sweet face when we get home. It’s the little things.

So tell me…

How was your weekend?

Ever heard a fake sounding laugh or sneeze?

Do you like comedy shows?

Right!? I see someone on a daily basis that sneezes like a prissy 5 year old. It takes all my will power not to say “Really?!?” hehe

  5. My BF is a graphic designer, so he does all my blog stuff too :) It’s great to have a art/tech savvy guy in the house!

It definitely is :D I must say that the first thing I thought when I found your blog was “Wow what a great design!”. He did a great job! It’s tough sometimes though because they design for a living so it isn’t always fun to stare at a screen again at home. Does your designer relate?

      • Thanks for the compliment :) More often than not, the BF loves getting back on screen. He does a lot of freelancing, so he’s always getting back on there. That’s obviously a good sign that he’s in the right field!
