I have a pretty short work week because I’m leaving Thursday morning for the 4th conference of the year. Can you believe it?! Neither can I. I’m beginning to see a pattern here where I do something a lot after trying it for the first time. Last year I did my first half marathon and followed with 6 more of them. My first conference this April was followed by 3 more. Please lord tell me I’m not about to do a whole bunch of full marathons in 2013! ::shudders::
I stayed up late last night working on the final details for my Ignite presentation. Look ma I’m speaking!!
I’ve been pretty nervous ever since I heard that I was one of the speakers voted on to present using the Ignite format. It’s a 5 minute presentation with 20 auto advancing slides every 15 seconds. Ignite is a different animal with lots of audience interaction and really fun topics. Check out one of my favorites explaining Bollywood in 5 minutes by Meghan Wilker: Bollywood . I admit when I applied that my fearless mentality was more out of ignorance than courage. Just like when I started running, I thought to myself ” That looks challenging” and went for it. I’m such a silly broad. It may not be such a bad thing considering that this attitude has brought me boatloads of rewarding experiences. But holy hell is it nerve wracking before I jump.
Pros: Only 5 minutes to make an ass out of yourself.
Cons: Only 5 minutes to relay your message.
I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll remember all my content and have a good time with it on Friday. But if all else fails at least I know that I’ll have some eye candy to stare at while I talk. Ryan Gosling makes a cameo. Enough said.
On another note AT&T is not updating my order status for the new iphone 5 as quickly as I would have hoped. It is stuck in perpetual limbo otherwise known as “preorder processing” which leaves me in a stupid lurch.
Someone bought my iphone 4 yesterday after only 3 minutes of being live on ebay. Who would’ve thunk it? I need to ship pretty soon. I have no idea when the iphone 5 will arrive so I may be out of contact with the world for a few weeks. Le sigh. It’s my fault for selling before it arrived but I didn’t want to risk having the price to drop.Anyone else in the same situation?
Do you pre-order phones or wait until they are widely available?
Ever present in front of a lot of people? Any tips for me?
Do you jump into things without thinking them through first? How do they turn out usually?

Good luck with your presentation! It sounds like you’re going to do a great job. At the very least, everyone will be jazzed on the pop of Ryan Gosling

I am waiting a couple of weeks before I take the 5 plunge–I’ll go to my Apple store and let the lines die down first. Good luck with getting yours in time!

I can’t believe you’ve done so many half marathons in one year! I’ll be doing my third on Sunday. I do the same race every year. I think I need to switch things up!

Thank you so much Corrie Anne! It went surprisingly well. I think it’s in large part to all the sweet comments I received. I’m so grateful for supportive people like you that calmed my nerves!!
I definitely jump in without thinking but often it works out well. The best tips I got told for presenting were to think about and watch other presenters. Notice who is good and who sucks. Generally the same ppl are good over and over and the same people bore you over. It is not experience but confidence, style and pace. If in doubt slow down and enjoy!
you’ll do really well!

And I can attest that you had one of the best, funniest Ignite presentations at the conference. Yes, I approve of adding some Ryan Gosling to our lives whenever possible. But a dose of your humor and insight is even better!
It was so great meeting you this weekend, Jane! You did an awesome job on your presentation… you were so calm and confident. Hope you’re getting back to your normal routine and caught up on sleep!

XoXO Laura!! I’m so glad I met you and got to spend some time chatting at what was a whirlwind weekend at Fitbloggin. You are such a genuine person and I look forward to seeing you succeed in life.
I got up at 2:45am on the 14th to preorder the iPhone5…but of course I missed the delivery the following Friday because of Fitbloggin! Luckily I was able to run home on Saturday to get it. I hope yours comes soon!!!!
And yeah, your presentation? Awesome. And yeah, Ryan Gosling? HAWT

Would you believe that I still do not have a phone or shipping information?! So jealous of your gadgetry. How is it so far?? I need details of your beautiful life together so I can distract myself lol Thank you for the kind words. I’ll let Ryan Gosling know that his cameo was well received and that he may have a shot at the whole acting thing
Holy crap, it’s awesome! It’s faster, has better battery life, and the LTE is amazing! I hope you gets yours soon, because as previously stated, it is awesome.
