Meek & Mighty Recap/My First Triathlon
Triumph. Tears. Joy. A little puking. A lot of shock. Over too soon. All of these describe my first triathlon experience. It was a crash course in multi-sport and this Latina not only survived but won this: Aaaaaaah!! What!?! Let’s back track first though shall we? We drove to St.Petersburg after work Friday and arrived a little past midnight the night before the race. Right away I knew I wouldn’t be getting much sleep as I still had to unpack and prepare everything for the early morning wake up call at 4 a.m. ::shudders:: It was brutal folks. I climbed … Continue reading
Zooma Amelia Island Half Marathon Recap 2013
First of all, I look happy don’t I? I was incredibly relieved I had survived my 9th half marathon after not having trained or ran for that matter since…..Ragnar Jan 5…..and hell not much before that either. Oops. Plus these girls are a hoot. The leg lifting turned out to be an issue for those that had run like gods out there their hearts out so the picture was snapped just in the nick of time before the legs came down on their own. Ok so let me just say that I was Stunned with a capital S. I was … Continue reading
What I Learned from Ragnar Relay Key West
As they say in the south, I’m back y’all! Ragnar was equal parts crazy, fun, exhausting, smelly, short, long, hot, and memorable. There were things I expected that never happened and things that happened that I never expected but that’s expected right? So I thought I’d share my unfiltered thoughts on the whole adventure while it’s still fresh on my mind. Recap comes later, but first, here is what I learned from Ragnar Relay Key West: 1. It’s effin hot and humid on that route. The kind of humid that drenches you for just standing in it. Like sweaty monkeys … Continue reading
Runner’s World Half Marathon Festival Day 1 Recap
It’s officially been a week since I was in Bethlehem, PA enjoying the fall foliage, cool weather, and surreal meet ups with some of Running’s greats.Only now do I feel like I can talk about the incredible adventure we all took part in. It never sunk in fully and I constantly felt like it was all a crazy dream I would wake up from; drenched in sweat and with a goofy smile on my face slowly dissipating as I realized that I was still in fact in my bedroom. I began the day early by waking up at 4:30 a.m. … Continue reading
Krispy Kreme Doughnut Race Challenge
I can’t believe we did that. Really, it was such a crazy kind of event. It was bizarre to see so many fit people waiting around to gobble down doughnuts and then run. I felt like Willy Wonka had cast a spell on Jacksonville. Willy Wonka- “And over there children, is where you will stuff mounds of sugary dough down your gullet before sprinting for your life.” Children respond “it sounds like a strange experience……but we’re intrigued! Let’s do this!” As I mentioned earlier, we weren’t dumb crazy enough to sign up for this challenge solo, so I picked up our … Continue reading
2012 Disney Princess Half Marathon Recap Part 1
I had a whirlwind weekend that is now sadly over Yes I am still sad it’s over and it’s been 2 weeks already! We embraced shenanigans: and as a result had Pluto and the rest of the employees that came running in to our photo op room in stitches : Before we get to that though. This was the original plan: Friday: Expo then a day at Epcot hanging out with my old best friend Gisy (that currently lives in another city) and our friend from High school Alex. Giselle was in town to do her 2nd ever 5k on … Continue reading
Donna Breast Cancer Half-Marathon Recap
I signed up for the race last minute, a mere 3 days before, partly because the absentee running group was so enthusiastic about it (I really didn’t want to miss seeing all their smiling faces) and partly because all the proceeds go to Breast Cancer. Not many races, if any, can say that they donate ALL registration fees to a cause. I also didn’t want to skip out on such a large local race when to put it as others in my life did ” You go out of town for races all the time so why are you not … Continue reading
Jacksonville Bank Half Marathon 2011 Recap
I just want to say that this is probably the first time I had an absolute blast during a run!! Wow I didn’t know what that felt like I’ve been missing out. Here’s how the day went: Pre-Race I woke up at 5:30 a.m. Sunday feeling pretty good and thankful that it wasn’t 3:30 a.m. like it has been for every other half marathon I’ve done this year. I had laid out my gear the night before so getting ready was a breeze (except for when I slammed my foot into the bed post while I navigated in the … Continue reading
