Saturday night I got to host a SleepPink party benefiting Breast Cancer.
It’s basically an opportunity to hang out with your best girl friends during a pink themed get together while raising money for a great cause. How it works is Estroven (a menopause relief product) donates $100 to Avon’s breast cancer research for every picture sent in from these parties. Cool right? I found out about it through SITS Girls on Thursday so it was a mad dash to get everything ready. Friday I placed an order for the balloons and planned a menu. Pinterest was a huge help when I needed to find pink appetizers to fit the theme.
I decided on Strawberries 3 ways (crostini with honey goat cheese, chocolate filled, and whip cream filled), white chocolate popcorn colored pink, 3 dips with pita chips, phyllo cups with Brie and whole cranberry sauce, and of course some pink wine.
I admit that I had a little too much fun (is there such a thing?) with the planning details. I made everyone a personal popcorn box using the Martha Stewart living labels given to me at Blogher this year.
And used some left over hello kitty labels to help people remember which cup was theirs.
It was a pretty casual party, but I feel like the little things made it a bit special. After my guests arrived, Charlie couldn’t help schmoozing up all the ladies by cuddling up to them individually. This pup has game. One of my friends was seriously considering getting an Australian Shepherd after he put a love spell on them. A win for all his kind.
After playing a few rounds of the drinking game ” Never have I ever” and discovering A LOT about each other (holy crap is that game fun), we decided to try out ImPress Nails. Their PR rep Amanda was sweet enough to send these samples over to me last minute so that everyone could try them out. She sent over lots of pink shades from their different lines including the Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat dolls) one. Can you tell which shade is from her line with them? (hint: think wild).
They are an update to the old school press-on nails and take no time at all to apply once you get the hang of it. What I love most about them is how convenient they are for when you are in a pinch. I recently had a last minute shoot in New York with no time at all to do over my badly chipped nails. I luckily remembered that I had a pack of these from Blogher, applied them in 5 minutes, and did the shoot looking very professional. They come in all kinds of shades and look really natural.
I highly recommend stocking up on some shades like black, patterned, and neutral for your emergency beauty needs. Other great reasons to wear them: If you change your mind about nail polish a lot (you can easily remove and re-apply later if needed), you don’t want to bite your nails, or you want to give your nails a break from polish without going bare.
All in all, it was a really great night with an amazing group of girls. If you’re interested in learning more about the SleepPink parties and want to host one of your own (it’s free), go to www.SleepPink.com for all the details. Like I said, Estroven will donate $100 to breast cancer research and all you have to do is submit a picture from your party. Helping others together with your closest friends is really rewarding and a lot of fun.
Have you ever played “Never Have I Ever”? I’ll give you a tame one of mine. Never have I ever snow boarded. I tried skiing about 3 years ago but only had time to try it once.
Your turn now! tell me something you’ve never done

Pink sakes alive, I am impressed with what you threw together so quickly. Generation gap – never heard of the game “never have I ever.” Do you simply take turns confessing something you have never done? How does one “win?” Pink high fives to Estroven for donating such a generous amount per party pic to support breast cancer research.

I’ve never heard of those nails (but am familiar with the concept). They looked decent in the picture. I look forward to checking them out myself! Glad you post about them.
